Urena’s Small Farm Produces a Range of Coffees Including Natural Processed and Rare Cultivars
Seattle, Washington — Fonté Coffee Roaster unveils its newest coffee, Costa Rica’s La Pira Cup of Excellence at their Seattle Café. La Pira is located in the high altitude Dota Valley of the Tarrazu region, an area long known for producing clean, bright coffees. This relatively young estate (50 years) is operated by the founder’s son, Carlos Urena Ceciliano. The farm was developed with sustainability in mind, integrating compatible livestock and secondary tree crop production to minimize the use of fertilizers. Though small, Urena’s farm produces a range of coffees including natural processed and rare cultivars. La Pira can be purchased online at www.fontecoffee.com, or at Fonté Café and Wine Bar located in downtown Seattle, across from the Seattle Art Museum.
Founder Paul Odom states, “Our Costa Rica La Pira Cup of Excellence is an intense, classic Costa Rica profile coffee. Majestic in the cup, La Pira features a complex acidity, initially sparkling with notes of orange zest that give way to a tart, dry finish. Contrasting this brightness are flavors of caramel sweetness in the beginning, which gradually develop into dry sweet cocoa notes acting as a counterpoint to the tangy acidity. The body of this coffee is enhanced by a creaminess that completes the cup.”
